Assistant Professor, Baylor University, Waco, Texas. The Department of Marketing in the Hankamer School of Business invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning August 2008, pending final approval. Research/teaching areas are open. Some preference will be given to candidates with teaching interests in branding, advertising, promotion, and new media. An opportunity exists to interface with our Music & Entertainment Marketing program. Typical tenure-track teaching load is four courses a year (2/2) with a single prep. When possible, creative scheduling may be arranged (0/4; 1/3; 0/2/June, etc.) to produce more open time blocks.

Qualified candidates will offer expectations of (a) a record of highly regarded scholarly productivity, (b) excellent teaching using experiential learning methods, and (c) collegiality. An appropriate terminal degree from an AACSB-accredited institution is required. For all positions at Baylor University, candidates will evidence an active Christian faith. The Department of Marketing consists of 17 full-time faculty. Marketing faculty lead the school with the highest per capita output in discipline-based research over the past five years, including multiple publications in the Journal of Marketing and other highly regarded outlets, such as the Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Service Research, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, and Journal of Business Research, among others. We seek candidates who will enhance our productivity.

Marketing is the largest single major among the 2700 students in the Hankamer School of Business. By design, marketing elective classes are generally restricted to less than 20 students. The department contains the Keller Center for Professional Selling, as well as the Center for Sports Sponsorship & Sales. The department is currently building a Brand Promotion track for marketing majors that mirrors the success of our selective major programs in Non-Profit Marketing, Professional Selling, Sports Sponsorship & Sales, and Music & Entertainment Marketing. The department has extensive ties with industry through its various advisory boards in these programs, including advertising and promotion agencies.

The Marketing Faculty of the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University is conducting a national search for the Director of the Keller Center for Professional Selling housed in the school’s marketing department. The marketing department has been successful in attracting outstanding new faculty, due in part to the generosity of Gary Keller (Keller-Williams Real Estate), whose $5 million endowment for the Keller Center provides for cutting-edge research in the area of buyer-seller relationships. In addition to its emphasis on research, the Keller Center provides an outstanding academic program in professional selling-itself with its own prestigious advisory board (see ).

The faculty member serving as the Director of the Keller Center is responsible for:

  1. Leading associated faculty (five) and managing staff in the Center. Current staff includes an Associate Director, Assistant Director for the Center for Professional Selling, Administrative Associate, and four graduate assistants for the Center.
  2. Producing scholarly and applied research within the Center and to disseminate the latter to key constituents, including members of the real estate sales industry.
  3. Interacting with key constituents, including the donor’s research and publication staff and the Center’s advisory board.
  4. Overseeing the growing undergraduate program in the professional selling major.

Qualified faculty candidates for this position should demonstrate (a) a record of highly regarded scholarly productivity in fields related to the Center, (b) ability to administrate faculty and staff to achieve unit goals, and (c) vision to advance the research, study, and teaching of professional selling and sales management at the undergraduate and professional level. An appropriate terminal degree from an AACSB-accredited institution is required. For all positions at Baylor University, candidates will evidence an active Christian faith.
