Foundation Professor of Marketing

George Mason University, School of Management (SOM) invites applications and nominations for the George Mason University Foundation Professor of Marketing.

The successful candidate will receive support to continue their work in the study of strategic and global marketing, as well as have the opportunity to take a leadership role in promoting research in the school. Although applicants from any functional area of marketing are encouraged to apply, preference will be given to those with teaching and research interests in strategic marketing with an emphasis in global marketing.

The appointment, effective fall 2009, will be at the full professor level and will be part of SOM’s Marketing Area. Candidates should have a distinguished record in teaching and research, and a promising agenda for future work in the field.

Qualifications: The candidate must possess an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in marketing or a related discipline. The candidate should demonstrate a record of scholarly or professional accomplishments, as evidenced by high-quality impactful research (i.e., top-tier publications, publications that are extensively cited, scholarly books, doctoral student supervision, external research funding and other significant research achievements) that is consistent with the awarding of tenure at the rank of full professor. Senior Associate Professors that meet these qualifications are encouraged to apply.

The candidate will also have the following attributes:

  • A broad perception of strategic marketing in global markets;
  • An innovative and active research agenda with an established record of scholarship on national and/or international levels as evidenced by publications in the leading marketing journals;
  • A proven record of effective teaching in a variety of settings, such as undergraduate and graduate lectures, executive seminars, conferences and similar learning channels;
  • Evidence of interaction and relationship-building with faculty, administration, professional organizations and the business community; and
  • Demonstrated willingness to mentor faculty colleagues and provide leadership to SOM’s Marketing Area.

SOM’s Marketing Area is positioned for excellence in the design and delivery of degree programs and scholarly research in major marketing journals. At present, there are nine academically qualified faculty and four professionally qualified faculty in our area.
