The Journal of Marketing Education’s Outstanding Article of the Year (2007) is "The Wretched Refuse of a Teeming Shore? A Critical Examination of the Quality of Undergraduate Marketing Students," and is written by Professors Praveen Aggarwal, Rajiv Vaidyanathan, and Linda Rochford all of the Department of Marketing in the Labovitz College of Business and Economics at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. The article was published in the December 2007 issue (Vol. 29, No. 3).
The winning article makes a positive contribution to the marketing education literature by providing empirical evidence on the academic qualities of marketing students and opportunities for increasing their educational capabilities. Results from a broad-based sample suggest that marketing educators need more dialogue on exactly what set of knowledge and skills core to the discipline are being offered to students and their employers.
