Wathne and Heide selected for 2008 Louis W. Stern Award

A committee that included Shankar Ganesan (University of Arizona), Yunchuan Frank Liu (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), and Aric Rindfleisch (University of Wisconsin-Madison), is pleased to announce that Kenneth Wathne (Norwegian Management School & University of Wisconsin-Madison) and Jan B. Heide (University of Wisconsin-Madison) have been selected as winners of the 2008 Louis W. Stern Award for their article,

"Opportunism in Interfirm Relationships: Forms, Outcomes, and Solutions," [] []

which was published in the Journal of Marketing, in October 2000.

The Interorganizational SIG’s Louis W. Stern Award was established by Louis W. and Rhona L. Stern in 1999 through the ÂÜÀòÉç¹ÙÍø Foundation. The award recognizes an outstanding article published in a widely recognized and highly respected refereed journal that has made a significant contribution to the literature on marketing and channels of distribution. An article is eligible for consideration between three and eight calendar years after publication.

The committee was impressed by the originality of the article and its high degree of impact on the interorganizational literature. This article is ambitious in its scope and has redefined the way in which interorganizational scholars and practitioners think about opportunism. In particular, this article has made an important contribution by clearly delineating the different forms that opportunism takes in interorganizational relationships and also outlines a number of possible solutions for managing these various forms. As a testament to its impact, this article has been highly cited and received numerous nominations from the interorganizational research community.

The SIG thanks all those who took the time to nominate and the committee for their work. Please join us in offering Ken and Jan hearty congratulations for their outstanding contribution to our field.
