Radford University is seeking a dynamic and charismatic individual with an established national or international reputation for creative and scholarly work who can effectively lead the College of Business and Economics: an individual who has “instant recognition” in the academic or business communities that will lend immediate status to the college as being truly “world class“; an individual who can inspire, energize, and motivate all college constituents to join his/her vision for the College; and an individual who is fair-minded, takes pride in the achievements of others, is a consensus builder, and will serve as role model for faculty and students.
The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College. He/she will report to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and participate with colleagues on the Council of Deans. The Dean is responsible for effective academic leadership, strategic planning, faculty and staff appointments, budgetary and administrative oversight, development and alumni affairs, and community relations. The day-to-day activities of the Dean include leadership in the academic and larger communities; effective communication with faculty, staff, and students; consensus building; and fundraising.
The
AACSB-accredited
College
of Business and Economics houses four departments: Accounting, Finance and Business Law; Economics; Management; and Marketing. The College offers five B.B.A undergraduate business majors, B.S and B.A. degrees in Economics, and the MBA. There are approximately 1500 undergraduate and 80 graduate MBA students in the college and 50 full-time faculty members. Also housed in the College is the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, which represents the economic development commitment of the University throughout the region.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have academic credentials and professional experience in one of the disciplines in the College with an earned terminal degree from an accredited institution as specified by AACSB standards or equivalent industry experience. Additionally, candidates must have a nationally or internationally recognized record of professional accomplishments suitable for appointment as a full professor with tenure in one of the areas represented in the college. Preference will be given to candidates with qualifications to include:
- A documented history of effective academic and/or executive leadership that reflects progressively responsible administrative experience . Included in this history should be a record of articulating a clear vision and developing and implementing a strategic plan;
- Demonstrated success in securing or significantly assisting in securing external funds; a record of attracting and effectively organizing and mobilizing resources; and a record of participation in successful fundraising and other developmental activities;
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, tolerance, and an active examination of ideas that provide a greater understanding of the richness and complexity of our society. Evidence of this commitment to diversity should include the d emonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain talented and diverse students, faculty, and staff;
- Demonstrated ability in establishing and overseeing procedures to maintain quality, equity, and accountability in all administrative activities, including selecting and promoting faculty and staff, and developing and managing human, financial, and physical resources;
- A successful record of establishing relationships within a university, the business community, and alumni;
- Successful experience with accreditation procedures and processes;
- The capacity to create a supportive environment and to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to achieve the goals and objectives of the College, while simultaneously working with colleagues to address strategic priorities of the University;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, respect for the academic process and shared governance, and an ability to optimize the use of faculty and staff resources; and
- A demonstrated understanding and appreciation for maintaining high standards for faculty teaching and student learning.
Salary is highly competitive with AACSB-accredited institutions and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
