Call for applicants – RBC Financial Group Chair of E-Commerce
Canada’s first management school, HEC Montréal was founded a century ago, in 1907. HEC boasts a multidisciplinary faculty of nearly 230 career professors and, with over 30 chairs, centres and research groups.
Mission of the chair
The mission of the RBC Financial Group Chair of Electronic Commerce, founded in 2002, is to develop and disseminate leading-edge knowledge and expertise in all areas related to the adoption and use of new technologies by Canadian consumers. With a primary focus on basic and applied research, the Chair monitors and studies consumption phenomena that could influence, modify or hinder new information technologies.
Activities of the chair
The research approach of the Chair emphasizes the company-consumer interface, principally in the retail commerce context (including the services sector), along with the dissemination of information (media, training, cable broadcasting). In addition to basic research, the Chair has developed and published a series of applied studies. Subjects covered include: (1) Consumers’ perception and understanding of businesses’ use of private consumption data; (2) The structure of a website and consumers’ propensity to use it (3) The structure of a website and consumers’ perception of its security; (4) The nature of products and services that are marketable on the Internet; (5) The advertising market on the Internet.
The Chair conducts its activities in concert with various partners including Belairdirect, the Yellow Pages group and the Québec government.
Based on the studies conducted, annual seminars are organized on the theme of consumption and new information technologies. Moreover, specialized seminars can be developed and offered to priority clienteles such as executives and officers of RBC Financial Group along with its customers and business partners.
Chairholder
Candidates for chair holder should have the qualifications to hold the position of associate professor or full professor at HEC Montréal; notably:
- a doctorate in marketing or in a related field;
- noteworthy scholarly publications;
- outstanding professional influence;
- proven exceptional teaching abilities in programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
- the ability and desire to supervise graduate students;
- the ability to interact effectively with both academics and members of the business community;
- willingness to play a leadership role by developing new activities and by increasing the number of partner companies and associated financing.
