Hello,

We are using a commercial package called "Websurveyor" here (at Manchester Business School), but I am somewhat disappointed by the features, particularly when compared to some of the Open Source Packages from Sourceforge (e.g. phpsurveyor). The latter ones are implemented by our central University IT which has less of a corporate IT attitude…

Dear Naveen Donthu,

For what it’s worth: I checked out the available software about a year ago and found SelectSurvey (www.classapps.com) offering the best value (they have of course an academic discount) with the right features.

Also, in this past year of using the software, I have noticed that they regularly release free updates and their response to questions is usually pretty fast. All in all, I’m quite happy with the package. Definitely worth having a look at, I think.

Good luck!

Hi,

We use "SNAP", which is a commercial marketing research software programme. Our University use it for a number of uses including Student opinion, teaching purposes and resesarch applications.

They do an educational licence and have a US office (they are a UK company).

You may wish to consider them:

1) The software has been in existence in various upgraded forms for over 25 years.
2) Has a considerable number of data collection options
3) Export functions include SPPS – once a survey is created in SNAP, export sets up SPSS variables and loads data if this is present.

If you have any questiions please let me know,

Hi Naveen

I use surveymonkey. It’s very inexpensive and easy to use. I’d be interested in seeing what you learn from others. If you decide to summarize your findings, I’d love to get a copy.

Thanks!

Naveen

I saw your post on ELMAR about survey software. I have been looking into this same issue. One of my top picks is a product called SurveyZ.com. The company that produces it is Qualtrics ( http://www.qualtrics.com ). They own several of the online survey brands. I think that Qualtrics also directly supplies a version that might have more capabilities than SurveyZ. Unfortunately, I have not yet had the opportunity to review it.

The key reason why I recommend this vendor is that their products have the ability to do semantic differential items (ex. completely hate 1 2 3 4 5 absolutely love) which are used in many if not most published scales (in CB anyway). Another thing to look out for is the number of concurrent surveys allowed. Researchers using experiments may need a separate survey for each experimental condition and, as you know, this number increases exponentially with the number of independent variables. The "professor" version of SurveyZ only allows two concurrent surveys which makes is useless for many researchers doing experiments. I don’t think you run into this problem with the department license.

I think that Qualitrics will give you a temporary license that will allow you to at least evaluate the software   Andy Schultz ( andys@qualtrics.com) at Qualtrics might be able to set this up for you.

Good luck. I wouldn’t mind hearing which provider you guys decide to go with.

Naveen,

as a matter of coincidence, I am just looking for a software, too. Below are some links that might be helpful. >From the websites and online demos, I had a good impression of the globalpark package. However, I will still have to check whether that package enables complex filters, scale formats, and feedback reports.

It would be great if we could share our evaluation of the market. What is your current preference?

Best regards,
Ove

Yes, it is Ultimate Survey v7.1 Advanced Edition – ©2004 Prezza Technologies, Inc. <http://www.prezzatech.com/>   I do NOT like it and would NOT recommend it.  It is neither flexible, nor is it user friendly.  I would strongly recommend against using it.  In fact I plan on contacting them and asking for a refund.  I hope that helps.
