POSITION DESCRIPTION

Western Michigan University, Haworth College of Business, invites applications for the position of Chairperson, Department of Marketing.  The Department of Marketing has a faculty of 17 full-time tenure track positions.  In addition there are two full-time instructors and a number of part-time positions.  There are approximately 1300 undergraduate majors in the Department of Marketing seeking a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.  The department has four majors including Marketing, Food and Consumer Packaged Goods, Advertising and Promotion, and Sales and Business Marketing.  In addition the department serves in partnership with the Management Department to host the Integrated Supply Management program.  The department also provides a marketing concentration in the Master of Business Administration program.

The Chair is expected to provide leadership and direction in the planning, development and delivery of academic programs and in the maintenance of excellence in teaching, in scholarly productivity or creative endeavor, and in service.

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Marketing or a related area and must have a publication record sufficient for appointment as an Associate or Full Professor with tenure.  Other essential qualifications include effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work well with the business community.  Administrative experience is desirable.

A contribution to the Faculty’s research output and/or commercial consultancy services is required. The incumbent will assume administrative tasks associated with normal teaching duties and will also contribute to Faculty management and administration generally.

Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Marketing

The School of Marketing is one of Australia’s largest Schools of Marketing. The School collaborates internationally with researchers at partner institutions in North and South America, South Africa and the European Union.

The Ehrenberg-Bass Institute attracts several million dollars per year in research funding from sponsors including Coca-cola, Kraft, Procter & Gamble, Turner Broadcasting, General Motors, Unilever and many others.

Institute funds are employed to provide research assistance and seed funding for projects, and to fund conference travel.  There are more than 20 post-graduate research degree candidates within the School, most of whom receive Institute scholarships.

The Institute has significant research infrastructure including an in-house computer assisted interviewing field-team, bibliographic databases, and very significant international data sets.
