Richard and Susan Lenny Distinguished Chair in Marketing

Georgia State University’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business is seeking candidates for the Richard and Susan Lenny Distinguished Chair in the college’s Department of Marketing. Richard Lenny graduated from Georgia State University with a major in marketing and serves as the President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of The Hershey Company.

The individual selected for this chaired position is expected to be an eminent scholar who will take a leadership role in furthering the research, educational, and community service missions of the college. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate, an international scholarly reputation, a strong record of published research in any area of marketing, an ability to inspire and interact with the business community, collegiality, and a demonstrated ability to develop and work with others to define and conduct research.

The J. Mack Robinson College of Business, one of the largest AACSB-accredited business schools in the U.S., offers undergraduate degree programs, graduate programs (MBA, specialized masters, and doctoral programs) and a spectrum of executive education including an EMBA. The College, which has approximately 180 full-time faculty members, enrolls approximately 5,300 undergraduate students, and over 2,500 graduate students. The College’s part-time MBA program is ranked 7th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. The Department of Marketing in the Robinson College has a diverse, collegial group of 20 marketing and 6 Business Communications faculty members. The unit offers academic programs leading to the BBA, MS, and PhD degrees and provides a marketing concentration in the MBA program. It also supports vibrant research programs targeting publication in premier journals, two research centers, and three journal editorships as well as model business outreach programs.  Additional information about the department is available at: .

The appointment for this position will be at the rank of professor and the person is expected to have an exceptional record of achievement. Salary is competitive and consistent with qualifications.  The appointment is expected to start in Fall 2007; the position is contingent upon final budget approval by the University. Position: Assistant Professor, tenure track in advertising
Responsibilities: Teach courses in the undergraduate advertising track including principles of advertising, copywriting, media planning, advertising campaigns, and others in advertising or communication. Some graduate teaching is available. Advise students as necessary.

Appointment: Ten-month appointment with the possibility of additional summer compensation for teaching. Start date: Fall 2007.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate or ADB (completion of all doctoral work required by February 1, 2008). Demonstrated success or potential as a classroom teacher is required. A potential for research productivity is required.  Professional advertising experience preferred. Experience in issues of civic engagement and/or interdisciplinary work is desired; experience in innovative classroom technology and/or distance learning is a plus.

The Department of Mass Communication & Communication Studies annually enrolls approximately 1,000 majors served by 20 full-time and 45 part-time faculty. The Department offers undergraduate tracks in strategic public relations and integrated communication, journalism and new media, and advertising. The Department offers two majors: in mass communication and in communication studies. A master’s degree is offered in Communication Management.
