DAVIS D. BOVAIRD CHAIR IN
ENTREPRENEURIAL STUDIES

Position Information

The College of Business Administration seeks an experienced candidate to fill the Bovaird Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies. The Bovaird Chair holder will contribute to the mission of the College and University, promote entrepreneurship, and provide leadership in curriculum development, scholarship, and teaching in the area of entrepreneurship. An undergraduate management concentration is offered in entrepreneurship. Required qualifications for the Bovaird Chair holder include: a doctoral degree in a business-related discipline; a record of quality entrepreneurship teaching; strong scholarly credentials, including entrepreneurship publications in peer-reviewed journals; a willingness to work with other faculty on joint projects of mutual interest; a commitment to work jointly with other TU colleges and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to develop entrepreneurship programs and encourage development of successful business ventures; the ability to develop partnerships in the business community; and a desire to mentor students developing business plans. The Chair holder will be expected to create a forum for entrepreneurs, students, and faculty. The Bovaird Chair holder will promote and teach the application of entrepreneurship principles to companies of all sizes, including but not limited to startups, spurring corporate growth and renewal. Other activities will include: establishing an entrepreneurship advisory council; offering non-credit courses and seminars for entrepreneurs; creating an entrepreneur-in-residence program; offering entrepreneurship courses for undergraduate and graduate students; engaging in projects where students and faculty solve problems for (and with) entrepreneurs; and regularly publishing entrepreneurship research in refereed and professional journals. Tenure may be awarded to a qualified candidate. Expected start date is August 2007. Salary and rank will be competitive and commensurate with experience. The Bovaird Chair will have an 11-month faculty appointment.

The College

The College of Business Administration is accredited by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. There are three business departments—Accounting and Management Information Systems, Finance and Operations Management, and Management and Marketing—with approximately 40 full-time faculty members. The College has a current enrollment of approximately 700 undergraduate business students and 200 graduate business students. Degree offerings include the BSBA, BSIBL, MBA, MTAX, and MS in Finance. The College has numerous partnerships with universities in various parts of the world as well as excellent relationships with businesses and not-for-profit organizations in the region.

The University

The University of Tulsa (TU) is the oldest private educational institution in Oklahoma, with an endowment of $820 million (75th in the country), and a total enrollment of 4,100 students in four colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Engineering and Natural Sciences, and Law. The City

Tulsa is one of the most livable and affordable cities in the United States with a population of almost 825,000 in the Tulsa MSA, and a cost of living index of 91.5. Located in the rolling Osage Hills of northeastern Oklahoma, Tulsa has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with numerous cultural opportunities including two major art museums, professional resident opera, ballet, symphony, and theater companies, and exceptional medical, recreational, and business facilities. Applications are invited for three-year contracts as Full Time Assistant Professor in Economics and Business at Luiss Guido Carli University; these contracts are in the areas of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Finance, Marketing, International Business Strategies and Public Management . Position:  Tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Business Administration (Marketing). Starting date is August, 2007 but is negotiable.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate level courses related to Marketing within the Business Administration Program.  Of particular interest is a faculty member whose teaching focus would include Marketing Research and/or Selling and Sales Management.  A normal teaching load is 9 hours per semester. Scholarly activity and research output are expected.  Responsibilities also include: advising business students; mentoring students in activities and undergraduate research; and service to the Division, University, profession, and community. 

Requirements:
Minimum: 

  • Ph.D. in Marketing or ABD from an AACSB accredited University (Interview scheduling preference will be given to applicants with degree in hand. Applicants with dissertation defense scheduled during 2006-2007 could receive consideration.)
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence
  • Demonstrated potential for meaningful contribution to the research and creative activity component of the Divisional mission.
  • The successful candidate will exhibit excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated record of outstanding teaching capability
  • Demonstrated record of quality intellectual and scholarly activity
  • Related industry or consulting experience
  • Course work related to market research or sales management

Rank and Salary:  Assistant or Associate Professor.  Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Appointment at associate rank normally requires five years in rank at the Assistant Professor level, a sustained record of scholarly production, a history of meaningful service, and a record of effective instruction.
