Position Description
The Department of Agricultural Economics at Michigan State University is seeking an assistant professor to develop an outstanding research and teaching program in food retailing, wholesaling, manufacturing, consumer marketing, or a related area. This position will normally involve teaching 2-3 courses per year and over time will provide leadership in the Department’s food industry management program. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program focusing on economic, management or marketing issues related to the food industry. Successful applicants would be expected to publish research results in professional journals and develop a strong record of student learning and achievement.

Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or relevant Business related fields. Excellent teaching, research, and communication skills are required. The ability to work collaboratively and knowledge of food industries is desirable.

EFFECTIVE DATES FOR ALL POSITIONS: August 27, 2007
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Marketing or a related field in hand, prior to the effective date of appointment, from an AACSB (or equivalent) accredited institution. Strong teaching and research potential. Ability to communicate and work effectively within an ethnically and culturally diverse community.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Published or forthcoming research in the publications appropriate for the different positions. Strong interest and desire to teach in the in the posted position’s area. Prior teaching experience at the college level preferred. A degree of technical ability desired (but not requisite) to either develop or help in the development of online or hybrid online courses.
DUTIES: Teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in Marketing. Developing and maintaining a program of scholarly research and publications in the field. A normal teaching load of 9-12 units per semester, and usually no more than two different course preparations in an academic year. Faculty are expected to engage in scholarly activity leading to presentation or publication, and participate in department, college, university, and community service activities.
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
